Years 9–10 Multilingual education German and English reinforced

Several choices of language in certain subjects and different language levels.

Year 9 at Ecole moser

German and English reinforced

Year 9 follows a primary school programme with multilingual immersion (German and English reinforced).
Student-centred learning offers the possibility of tailoring the course of study to the student’s needs and potential. Depending on their linguistic profile, ambitions and results, students can choose from:

  • 2 German levels: standard and advanced
  • 3 English levels: standard, advanced and bilingual
  • 2 subjects taught in German, French or English (advanced level required in the target language): History and Biology.

The level can be changed at the end of the year based on an end-of-year review.
The specific option is also chosen progressively: students discover one option in semester 1 and another in semester 2. Students decide on their choice at the end of the year.

For those in the advanced German level, a cultural exchange is organised with a class in Lilienthal (Lower Saxony). French-speaking students and German-speaking students meet for a week in Breisach (Baden-Württemberg).
Students in other language levels may also take part in this exchange depending on the number of places available.

Year 10 at Ecole moser

German and English reinforced

In year 10, the multilingual immersion teaching from year 9 is consolidated.

Students follow their tailored course of study with the language levels studied in year 9: standard or advanced in German, and standard, advanced or bilingual in English.
The same goes for subjects taught in German, French or English (advanced level required in the target language), with some variations:

  • In German or French: History
  • In English or French: Mathematics
  • In German, French or English: Biology

It is possible to change the level at the end of the year depending on the student’s results and situation.

For students who met with the class from Lilienthal (Lower Saxony) in year 9, the exchange continues with the hosting of their pen pal (one week in Switzerland and one week in Germany).
The other students can go on a week-long trip, preferably to a German-speaking region.

At the end of the year, students can sit the Trinity College GESE exam. Depending on their ambitions and results, they begin a bilingual or non-bilingual Maturité course.
